Scott Hansen asked me to be a part of his fall Blue Nickel Quiltalong. This year's event is called Bloggers' Bar Hop Quiltalong. We are focusing on using rectangles, or bars, in our blocks. You can find Scott's post about the Bar Hop Quiltalong here.
The featured fabrics have been generously donated by Clothworks from their European Taupe VIII collection by Kinkame. Each participant received four fat quarters from the collection and were told we could add one solid and one print OR two solids. The other stipulation was that we had to use at least one rectangle in the block design. The blocks finish at 12 x 12 inches.
The top four fabrics in this photo are the ones I received and are different from the style I am used to using. I added the lower two, the brown solid and pink with birds.
Look, this fabric is double sided - two fabrics in one!
I love the texture of the weave in this one.
I doodled and drew quite a few designs but I ended up making a block inspired by a friend's sweater.
The lower rectangle is cut 4.5 by 12.5 inches. The upper rectangle is 8.5 by 12.5. The circles are 2.5 inches in diameter.
I know, I sort of obscured the rectangles with the applique'd circles.... quilting rules are made to be broken, right?
P had fun designing possible bar blocks. Here are a few of hers. I love that she marked the rectangles for me. She even marked out blocks that didn't have rectangles. I am mighty impressed with that block that has 25 PIECES!
Feel free to join us and to post your blocks in the flickr group here!
