Today is the kick off day for the { Modern } Relief fundraiser for Japan.
"Modern Relief has decided once again to bring the modern sewing community together in the name of fundraising for the relief efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. We will again be raffling off tickets for a chance to win over 50 gorgeous handmade quilts that have been generously donated by members of our community.
This round we will be rolling out new quilts every week so you'll have to come back often to see the new quilts you could win! Every $10.00 donated will get you one ticket for the quilt raffle. Money raised will be given to the Japan recovery efforts through Mercy Corps.
About Mercy Corps:
Mercy Corps helps people turn the crises they confront into the opportunities they deserve. Driven by local needs, our programs provide communities in the world's toughest places with the tools and support they need to transform their own lives. Our worldwide team in 36 countries is improving the lives of 19 million people.
In Japan, Mercy Corps is working in cooperation with a partner agency, Peace Winds, to respond to the massive earthquake that struck the northeast coast of Japan on March 11, killing thousands of people. Mercy Corps is working to deliver emergency supplies - including large shelters, tents, kerosene space heaters, blankets, instant rice and fresh produce - to families evacuated from homes in four tsunami-stricken cities in northeastern Japan. Also, Mercy Corps has launched their signature Comfort for Kids program, which is building up the ability of local communities to help children recover from the emotional effects of a large-scale disaster.
Please help up spread the word by blogging, Facebooking, or tweeting about our cause. Put our blog button up so people take notice! Together we can join forces and make a big difference!"
I've donated the red and aqua basket quilt for the cause.
