Sometimes inspiration strikes when I least expect it. Recently, while reading P her bedtime stories I had one of those moments. I had to bring the book to my sewing room after reading it. This page in The Summer Noisy Book by Margaret Wis Brown was speaking to me. I really like the color and style used by the illustrator, Leonard Weisgard.
I got out my color card for Kona Cotton solid fabrics and the boys helped me choose just the right colors. I want to make a quilt with them, perhaps a baby quilt. I have no design yet but at least I'll have the fabrics when the design inspiration hits.
After picking the colors to match the book, M looked at the color card with all of those little squares of colored fabric. He commented that if HE were making a quilt, he would choose different colors like this, and this, and this. He pointed to very rich, vibrant colors. I wrote them down as he pointed to the swatches.
The names were pomegranate, kiwi, eggplant, and papaya.
I looked at the swatch card some more and chose another palette:
honey, sweet pea, stone, khaki, butter and (parsley and tarragon on back order). This group has a more subtle feel but I like them together.
