Hi, I'm Lynn Harris. I learned to sew from my mother when I was very young and was encouraged by my grandmother, who always told me that anything I made was the “most beautiful thing” she had ever seen.
I take inspiration from my husband and three amazing children. We live in Michigan where we grow vegetables and raise chickens. I enjoy many kinds of needlework and love to knit, spin, embroider, and browse my collection of vintage children’s books.

I finished a larger version of the pixie hat for P to wear next year.
This one fits much better. The neck/scarf section is longer and will stay tucked into her coat better.
For this version of the Lyalya Hoodie I used Cascade 220 yarn. I do like the look of the more solid color yarn with this pattern. Miss P is thrilled with it.
I thought I might like one of these for myself but when I tried it on it made M laugh. I guess a second grader can pull off a pointy pixie hat look better than I can.

Have you ever wanted to know how to make a wooden spoon?
This is how I did it.
First, trace a wooden spoon from your kitchen onto a piece of wood. Then, have someone cut it out with an electric saw. Then, you use a spokeshave to shave the wood down to the line that you traced.
Then, make the handle round with the spokeshave.
Next, use the spokeshave to shave wood off the back of the bowl to make it rounded. Then, use a gouge to carve out the front of the bowl. Switch to a flatter and wider gouge to smooth those gouge marks out. Last, sand the spoon to make it smooth.
Ta-daaa! Now you have a wooden spoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(note - P's father has taught her how to use woodworking tools safely. The spoke shave is a fairly safe tool, gauges are a bit more dangerous and should be used with direction from someone who knows what they are doing)

We are back from a quick overnight trip to Lake Huron.
We had a good time seeing some sights, getting our feet wet, finding rocks and skipping rocks.

I did a bit of scrap sewing this weekend. I made some pieced binding for the Paris quilt and put together another stack of string blocks.
String piecing is very theraputic and allows me to mull over other projects while I sew.
I also made some bee blocks for LauraJ.
She requested "low volume" strip sets. These are all from my "lights" scraps. I hope they are low volume enough. The photo makes them seem more printy and high contrast than they are.
We also weeded and spread mulch on my herb garden and even had a little "campfire" last night. We thought we should at least have one evening fire before the mosquitoes get bad.

1970 - on the mountain with mom. Blueridge Mountains. It was a sweatear day.
